Plantar Wart Treatment
Plantar warts (also known as verucca/verrucaes) are benign skin lesions that are caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). They’re are very contagious and can be picked up from bathrooms, change rooms, pools and all communal areas with appropriate moisture and warm. Considering this it is very important not to touch or pick at the lesion as they virus is very easily transferred. 
They can present as a single lesion or multiple lesions and may or may not to painful. Warts can be mistaken for corns, however, if you look closely the skin striae (skin lines) are interrupted by the verrucae and are not by corns. In addition they often black dots within them. These characteristics are often hard too see as callus commonly cover the warts.
There are multiple treatment modalities available for warts which your Podiatrist can discuss with you. These include freezing, acid application, needling of the lesion, padding and offloading the wart and simple removal of the hard skin overlying the wart. These lesions can be quite stubborn to cure and may require multiple or repeated treatments.
